"I am very pleased to be able to announce the members of this committee today. I am looking forward to working with this group in order to enhance our intergenerational relationships. Their experience, knowledge, love and support contributed vastly to our history and continues to influence the way we live today and in the future," said the minister.

1999 has been designated as the International Year of Older Persons by the United Nations. IYOP was created as a year to acknowledge the importance of seniors in our every day lives. The year is being marked to recognize the continuous growth of the world's senior population and the resulting significance of an aging people on society.
