Advisory to motorists: tinted headlamps

The Motor Registration Division of the Department of Government Services and Lands advises members of the general public that the operation of a motor vehicle on a highway equipped with tinted headlamps is in direct violation of the highway traffic licensing and equipment regulations.

These regulations state that a headlamp can only emit white light and that a lamp source cannot emit light with an intensity exceeding the vehicle manufacturer's original equipment specifications.

When replacing a bulb in a headlamp, individuals are advised to use only bulbs stamped with a Department of Transportation approved mark (D.O.T.) and to consult their owner's manual to ensure that they do not exceed the power rating of the standard bulbs for their particular vehicle.
