Minister announces opening of Grand Lake Caribou Zone, Labrador

Kevin Aylward, minister responsible for wildlife, announced that effective immediately the Grand Lake Caribou Zone will be opened to caribou hunting. The minister said: "There have been several reports of significant numbers of caribou in the area which collaborates with the current distribution of satellite-collared animals in this hunting zone." The minister said he is pleased to provide residents with this hunting opportunity.

"The staff of my department will continue to monitor the movement of the George River Caribou Herd and additional areas may open, pending movements of George River animals into other areas," said the minister. "I wish all hunters a successful hunt and encourages everyone to exercise caution and safety in their pursuit."
