Minister announces opening of Orma South Caribou Extension Zone

Kevin Aylward, minister responsible for wildlife, announced that effective immediately, the Orma South caribou extension zone will be opened to caribou hunting. The minister stated: "There have been several sightings in the area which collaborate with responses from satellite - collared animals. My officials have informed me that the George River Caribou heard are within a few kilometres of the northern boundary of this zone, and have been drifting southward this past week." The minister is pleased to provide residents with this hunting opportunity.

"The staff of the Wildlife Division of my department will continue to monitor the movement of the George River caribou herd," said the minister. "Hunters are advised that additional areas may be opened as the caribou migration continues."

Ernest MacLean, MHA - Lake Melville, said: "I wish hunters every enjoyment and success in their hunting pursuits. But I urge hunters to always consider safety first."
