The opening of a caribou hunting zone for Orma North in Labrador

Kevin Aylward, Minister responsible for wildlife, announced today that the Orma North Extension Zone has been opened for hunting. "We have received several recent reports from local residents that there are significant numbers of caribou along the Orma Road, north of Marie Lake, in this section of central Labrador," said Mr. Aylward, "These anecdotal sightings are consistent with the recent trends exhibited by satellite-collared animals of the George River caribou herd."

"Monitoring of the movement of the George River herd will continue and other zones may be closed and/or opened as the herd migration continues," said the minister.
