Premier Tobin pledges full support to Quebec during power crisis

In a conversation with Premier Lucien Bouchard, Premier Brian Tobin today pledged that the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador would do everything in its power to assist the reestablishment of power lines for transmission and distribution of power in Quebec. The Premier says he has been in touch with both Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro and Newfoundland Power, both of whom stand ready to respond with repair crews as required by Hydro Quebec.

Premier Tobin said, "It is my understanding that some 24 linesmen and supervisors have now been assembled by both organizations and are awaiting further direction from Hydro Quebec as to their disposition. If Hydro Quebec deems it necessary crews will be ready to leave Newfoundland and Labrador within 24 hours."
