Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment and Labour Minister Oliver Langdon has announced the following events relative to the Environmental Assessment Act. In the case of documents received or approved, copies may be obtained by contacting the regional office of the Department of Environment and Labour or by calling toll-free 1-800-563-6181. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown for each item.

NEW UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

Frenchmans Pond Cottage Access Road
Proponent: Claude C. Payne

The proponent proposes to construct a 1.3 kilometre road to access remote cottage lots located on the north east side of Frenchmans Pond in the Bay of Islands area. Construction is planned for early December 1998. This undertaking was registered on October 19, 1998, public comments are due on November 19, 1998 and the minister's decision is due on December 3, 1998.

Cappahayden to Trepassey Coastal Trail - Wreck Path
Proponent: East Coast Trail Project

The proponent plans to create a 66 kilometre extension to the East Coast Trail from Cappahayden to Trepassey to upgrade an existing trail system and create a continuous permanent hiking trail. Physical features of the undertaking will include boardwalks, stairs, and bridges, which will be installed at sites that may be degraded by overuse. This undertaking was registered on October 20, 1998, public comments are due on November 19, 1998 and the minister's decision is due on December 4, 1998.
