Environmental Assessment Bulletin Environment and Labour Minister Oliver Langdon has announced the following events relative to the Environmental Assessment Act. In the case of documents received or approved, copies may be obtained by contacting the regional office of the Department of Environment and Labour or by calling toll free 1-800-563-6181. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown for each item. NEW UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:
The proponent proposes to relocate an existing mobile mini aquaculture hatchery for rainbow trout in Indian Bay from the Boland's property to near Old Plant Road. The hatchery will then be able to use an existing on-site well as opposed to bringing water by truck, as they are presently doing. The hatchery will consist of a mobile trailer unit, four growout tanks (200 gallon capacity each), incubation unit, and settling tank. Approximately 20,000 rainbow trout will be grown to 10 centimetres in size at the facility before being relocated to a rearing cage in Indian Bay Fishout Pond. The undertaking was registered on October 7, 1998, public comments are due on November 7, 1998 and the minister's decision is due on November 21, 1998. HISTORIC RESOURCES AND WILDLIFE COMPONENT STUDIES SUBMITTED:
The proponent has submitted the Historic Resources and Wildlife Component Studies for the Trans Labrador Highway (Red Bay to Cartwright) Project. The public has until November 14, 1998 to make comments on the Component Studies. UNDERTAKINGS RELEASED FROM ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT: The minister has decided that an Environmental Impact Statement is not required for the Shoal Point Access Road & Petroleum Exploration Well. This project has been released from environmental assessment as per requirements of the Environmental Assessment Act. A guide to the Environmental Assessment Process is available from the Department of Environment and Labour. The minister encourages all interested parties to become involved and to make comments known.
