Environmental Assessment Bulletin Environment and Labour Minister Oliver Langdon, has announced the following events relative to the Environmental Assessment Act. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown for each item. NEW UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:
The proponent proposes to operate an integrated sawmill approximately six km north of the town of Baie Verte, along the Fleur de Lys Highway (Route 410) at the former Baie Verte Mines site. The sawmill operation will include a debarker, bull edger, chipper and twin saw. Daily lumber production is projected to be 30,000 board feet. An existing building will be used for the sawmill and a new one storey office building will be built at the site. The mill will operate five days a week, 12 months a year. The undertaking was registered on August 4, 1998; public comments must be received by September 4, 1998; and the minister's decision is due on September 18, 1998.
The proponent proposes to construct and operate a salvage yard in the community of Horwood, off Route 331. The proposal involves the salvage of reusable auto parts, plus recyclable metals. A building will be constructed for dismantling the vehicles and storage of reusable parts. Auto bodies will be stockpiled until sufficient quantities warrant bringing in a mobile crusher for crushing and shipping to scrap metal recyclers. The undertaking was registered on August 7, 1998; public comments must be received by September 11, 1998; and the minister's decision is due on September 21, 1998.
