Environmental Assessment Bulletin Environment and Labour Minister Oliver Langdon has announced the following events relative to the Environmental Assessment Act. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown for each item. NEW UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:
The project consists of the allocation of approximately 40 lease hold cottage lots on the southeastern shoreline of George's Lake. George's Lake is located approximately 25 kilometres southwest of Corner Brook. Included in the project is the development of 1.165 kilometres of road to access the proposed cottage lots. The undertaking was registered on July 24, 1998; public comments must be received by August 28, 1998; and the minister's decision is due on September 7, 1998.
The proponent proposes to establish and operate a manufacturing facility to produce a multi-purpose cleaner/degreaser using an existing building at the former naval base in Argentia. The building will contain a 3,000 litre blending tank, offices and shipping and storage areas. Annual production of cleaning products will be approximately 15,000 gallons. The undertaking was registered on July 27, 1998; public comments must be received by August 29, 1998; and the minister's decision is due on September 10, 1998. UNDERTAKINGS WITHDRAWN:
The proponent has withdrawn its registration of the above project from the Environmental Assessment Process. UNDERTAKINGS RELEASED FROM ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT: The minister has decided that an environmental impact statement is not required for the Caplin Cove Peat Quarry. This project has been released from environmental assessment as per requirements of the Environmental Assessment Act.
