Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment and Labour Minister Oliver Langdon has announced the following events relative to the Environmental Assessment Act. In the case of documents received or approved, copies may be obtained by contacting the regional office of the Department of Environment and Labour or by calling toll-free 1-800-563-6181. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown for each item.

TERMS OF REFERENCE APPROVED

Trans Labrador Highway (Red Bay to Cartwright)
Proponent: Department Of Works, Services and Transportation

The terms of reference (TOR) for the Environmental Impact Statement have been approved by the minister. Anyone wishing copies of the TOR may contact the chairperson, Pat Marrie at 729-2813.

DECISION DATE EXTENDED:

Fort Amherst to Cappahayden Coastal Trail
Proponent: East Coast Trail Project

The original due date of the minister's decision on release of the undertaking has been extended with the proponents consent to fulfill additional information requirements regarding the undertaking.

UNDERTAKINGS RELEASED FROM ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT:

The minister has decided that an Environmental Impact Statement is not required for the following undertakings:

(1) Baie Verte Tannery

(2) 1998 Sawfly Spray Program (as of June 10, 1998)

These projects have been released from environmental assessment as per requirements of the Environmental Assessment Act.

The minister encourages all interested parties to become involved and to make comments known.
