Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment and Labour Minister Oliver Langdon has announced the following events relative to the Environmental Assessment Act. In the case of documents received or approved, copies may be obtained by contacting the regional office of the Department of Environment and Labour or by calling toll free 1-800-563-6181. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown for each item.

NEW UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

Emiril Siding to Esker Road (Labrador) Snowmobile Trail
Proponent: White Wolf Snowmobile Club, Labrador West)

The proponent proposes the development of a 150 km trail for recreational and tourism related snowmobiling. The trail would extend from the Qu�bec North Shore and Labrador Railway line near Emiril Siding to the Esker Road, and would be groomed for the 1998/1999 winter season. Two small, portable warm-up cabins would be constructed and all necessary signage would be posted along the trail. Work is tentatively scheduled to commence in July, 1998. The undertaking was registered on May 7, 1998; public comments must be received by June 12, 1998; and the minister's decision is due on June 21, 1998.

Crabbes River Cottage Development Plan
(Proponent: Department of Government Services and Lands)

The proponent proposes to designate 100 new cottage lots in five designated cottage areas. The planning area encompasses 369 square km approximately 60 km from both Port aux Basques and Stephenville. Areas 1-4 of the new lot allocations are located in undeveloped areas and will be License to Occupy. Area 5, Mitchell's Pond, is already accessible by a number of logging roads, and allocations will be leasehold. It is proposed to allocate cottage lots beginning in the summer of 1998. The undertaking was registered on May 7, 1998; comments should be received by the minister on or before June 12, 1998. The minister's decision is due on June 21, 1998.

NO ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT REQUIRED:

The minister has decided that an environmental impact statement is not required for the following undertakings which have recently been registered and examined by government and public. The undertakings are released subject to other regulatory and permitting requirements.

  • Witless Bay Automobile / ATV / Snowmobile Track

  • Long Cove Auto Repair and Salvage Yard
