Environmental Assessment Bulletin Environment and Labour Minister Oliver Langdon has announced the following events relative to the Environmental Assessment Act. In the case of documents received or approved, copies may be obtained by contacting the regional office of the Department of Environment and Labour or by calling toll-free 1-800-563-6181. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown for each item.
The proponent proposes an amendment to the Five Year Operating Plan for Forest Management District 16 (Upper Humber/Main River). The area is close to the Hinds Lake logging road and is approximately 102 hectares in size containing approximately 15,227 cubic metres of merchantable balsam fir timber that was omitted from the original proposal. Harvesting of this timber is tentatively scheduled to commence in June 1998. The project was registered on March 20, 1998, public comments must be received by April 24, 1998 and the minister's decision is due on May 4, 1998.
The proponent proposes to construct and operate a salvage yard off Route 70 behind the proponent's home in the community of Makinson's. The proposal involves the scrapping of automobiles from the Trinity/Conception Bay area and sale of reusable auto parts. Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin this spring. The project was registered on March 20, 1998, public comments must be received by April 24, 1998 and the minister's decision is due on May 4. 1998.
