In the case of documents received or approved, copies may be obtained by contacting the regional office of the Department of Environment and Labour or by calling toll-free 1-800-563-6181. NEW UNDERTAKING REGISTERED

Terra Nova River Dam
(Proponent: Community of Terra Nova)

The proponent proposes to construct a rock-fill timber crib dam on the Terra Nova River, approximately 20 km southwest from the river's outlet at Glovertown. The existing dam has been damaged and subsequently the water levels in Terra Nova Lake drop very low during the summer months, particularly in the downstream end. The construction of the new dam will ensure that cabin owners in the downstream end of the lake will always have water access to their cabins. Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in July 1998 and end in August 1998. The project was registered on January 22, 1998, public comments must be received by February 27, 1998 and the minister's decision is due on March 8, 1998.

NO ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT REQUIRED:

The minister has decided that an environmental impact statement is not required for the following undertaking which has recently been registered and examined by government and the public. The undertaking is released subject to other regulatory and permitting requirements.

- Paradise River to Valley's Bight (Labrador) Snowmobile Trail (Ptarmigan Trail Rerouting)

A guide to the Environmental Assessment Process is available from the Department of Environment and Labour. The minister encourages all interested parties to become involved and to make comments known.
