New software design program means bigger business for Starboard Woodcraft Ltd.

Starboard Woodcraft Ltd, one of the province's top quality producers of kitchen cabinets and fine furniture, is introducing new computer design software to their current operations with assistance from the Department of Development and Rural Renewal. This move will allow this Codroy Valley business to become more professional and efficient in its design process and more responsive to an expanding client base.

Co-owners Hubert Hall and Kelly Tompkins see the introduction of this new technology as an absolute must for their company. "Our clients are raising the standards in terms of their design needs. The Cabinet Works Euro Program we will be purchasing will enable us to prepare more comprehensive plans and graphic presentations for new and emerging commercial clients as well as allow us to better serve our traditional household clients. It will allow us to be more responsive, creative, and efficient in our design and production processes and offer us the ability to assume more contracts," said Tompkins.

"This is a small but significant step in the growth of our small business of eight employees. It allows us to promote higher standards of professional service and really strengthens our capacity to expand our current market base all across the province and beyond. We are looking forward to furnishing more homes and institutions as a result of this initiative," said Hall.

"It is critically important to give our established businesses every opportunity to grow and expand," said Beaton Tulk, Minister of Development and Rural Renewal.

"Starboard Woodcraft Ltd. has been in operation since 1984 and have proven through their commitment to quality that a successful manufacturing enterprise can exist and grow in rural Newfoundland. This initiative represents a bridge to bigger and better things and will take them further down the road of success. It will allow them to be seen as a real model for small-scale manufacturing enterprises in this province" said Tulk.
