(Development and Rural Renewal)

Manufacturing company starting in Pasadena after receiving provincial support

The Department of Development and Rural Renewal was instrumental in establishing in Pasadena a new manufacturing business which will employ up to 33 people.

Consistent with its aims to stimulate economic development in rural Newfoundland and Labrador, the department assigned staff to work closely with Can-Tite Industries Inc. to have worm drive hose clamps produced at the Venture Mall in the town. A marketing division in Ontario will be primarily responsible for marketing the clamps to automobile manufacturers throughout North America.

The department's minister, Beaton Tulk said he was extremely pleased that we were able to play a role in making this project happen. "It's just the kind of project we like to see going into the rural areas of our province. It creates new jobs, diversifies the economy and focuses on export markets which have significant growth opportunities."

The Department of Development and Rural Renewal has provided the company with a financial contribution of $100 thousand to assist with the start up costs. The total investment in Pasadena operation from all sources is about $725 thousand.

Minister Tulk said he was looking forward to continuing his department's close working relationship with Can-Tite. We really want them to succeed and become an example to many businesses as to what can be accomplished in rural Newfoundland and Labrador.
