The following is being distributed at the request of Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation:

NLHC sells houses to Torngat Regional Housing Association

Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation (NLHC) has sold three of its rental properties in the Town of Rigolet to the Torngat Regional Housing Association (TRHA). The announcement was made today by Art Reid, minister responsible for housing.

The three properties include: one, three-bedroom house and two, two-bedroom houses. These houses were originally part of the corporation's Rural and Native Housing portfolio which was designed to assist families and individuals residing in rural communities throughout the province. This sale is consistent with NLHC's intention to continue partnering with the TRHA, over time, to deliver more effective and efficient housing in northern coastal Labrador. Revenues from the sale will be used to address other housing needs in the communities of Nain, Hopedale, Postville, Makkovik and Rigolet, all of which are represented by Torngat.

"This is an excellent example of NLHC's renewed commitment to its social housing mandate," Mr. Reid said. "The corporation saw an opportunity to respond to changing housing needs and tailor that response to address other housing requirements for a particular community."

Wally Anderson, MHA - Torngat Mountains, commented: "I am very pleased with the cooperation through which this process has been accomplished, and I feel this decision has provided the best possible housing service for the people involved."

The corporation presented the Deeds of Conveyance to TRHA this past week.
