Provincial Road Reports available via Internet

A daily report on road conditions throughout Newfoundland and Labrador can now be accessed via the Internet, says Works, Services and Transportation Minister Lloyd Matthews.

"As of December 1 each year, the department of Works, Services and Transportation commences daily reporting on winter road conditions," Matthews says. "The report is prepared early each morning, and covers the major arteries in all regions of the province, and is usually available after 8:30 a.m."

The minister noted the Internet is an excellent way for travellers to check on road conditions before undertaking a trip, adding the department's address for road information is /wst/roads/

"While the daily road report is a good general guide to road conditions province-wide, winter driving conditions can change very quickly, especially when dealing with drifting or blowing snow," Matthews said. "Drivers should ensure they use extra caution and vigilance on all roads throughout the winter months."
