Premier Brian Tobin , MHA - Bay of Islands, is pleased to join with Lloyd Matthews, Minister of Works, Services and Transportation, to announce a brush clearing program for the district to be carried out by the Benoits Indian Band Council.

This project will see five hectares cleared at a cost of $12,500 and result in 183 person days of work.

This project is part of a part of a $1 million Highway Maintenance and Safety Program recently announced by the minister.

Brush cutting increases safety and improves the appearance of our highways. Brush cutting increases motorists' sight distances on curves and intersections; helps drivers to maintain an unobstructed view of hazards (particularly moose); makes road signs more visible; improves drainage on highways; helps with snow removal; and minimizes icy pavement conditions.
