A $1,565,605 contract has been awarded to Western Construction
Company Limited of Stephenville Crossing for paving and recapping
at various locations on the Port au Port Peninsula; paving 3.2
kilometres between Whites Road and Lower Cove on Route 460;
recapping Route 460 from Ship Cove to Lower Cove and Abrahams
Cove to Piccadilly, approximately 6.7 kilometres; and paving two
kilometres of local roads in Muddy Hole Flat Bay.
The announcement was made today by Lloyd Matthews, Minister of
Works, Services and Transportation; Kevin Aylward, MHA - St.
George's- Stephenville East; and Gerald Smith, MHA - Port au
Port.
This is a joint project between Transport Canada and the
Government of Newfoundland and Labrador under the Atlantic
Freight Transition Program.
Work on this project is expected to be completed September 30,
1997.
