A $4,723,300 contract has been awarded to Bluebird Investments Limited of Grand Falls-Windsor for construction of a new 3,000 square metre, single-storey school at Hopedale. The announcement was made today by Wally Andersen, MHA-Torngat Mountains, on behalf of Ernie McLean, Minister Responsible for Labrador, and Lloyd Matthews, Minister of Works, Services and Transportation.

Construction of the new school is scheduled to begin in early August. It is expected to be ready for occupancy in December 1998.

Mr. Andersen said: "This contract award is yet another demonstration of government's commitment to the people of Labrador. After years of waiting, the new school that residents of Hopedale had hoped and prayed for is finally becoming a reality."

Mr. Andersen also said that a tender will be called shortly for construction of a new school in Rigolet.
