Lloyd Matthews, Minister of Works, Services and Transportation, and Bill Ramsey, MHA - Burgeo and LaPoile, are pleased to announce that a contract, No. 6-97 THP, paving TCH from Port aux Basques Scalehouse towards Bear Cove Brook, km 889 to km 896, for a distance of seven kilometres including paving Upper Ferry to Searston R407, four kilometres for a total distance of 11 km; has been awarded to Western Construction Company Limited of Stephenville Crossing.

This is a joint project between Transport Canada and the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador under the Trans Canada Highway Agreement.

This contract has a value of $2,284,180 and Western Construction Company Limited was the lowest of three bidders. This project is to be completed September 30, 1997
