Section of Trans Labrador Highway Scheduled to Close to Heavy Traffic

Julie Bettney, Minister of Works, Services and Transportation, announced today that the section of the Trans Labrador Highway between Churchill Falls and Happy Valley-Goose Bay is scheduled to close on April 10, 1997 for a period of four to six weeks.

This measure is being taken, after consultation with members of the trucking industry, in anticipation of the spring thaw and run off. Announcing the closure date at this time will allow sufficient time for transportation of extra supplies.

Conditions will be monitored on a daily basis and appropriate notice will be given if there is any change to the scheduled closure.
