High winds disrupt Newfoundland ferry schedule

High winds and heavy seas in the Cabot Strait have again disrupted Marine Atlantic's ferry service to Newfoundland.

MV Caribou is riding out the storm three nautical miles off Channel Head, waiting for conditions to improve sufficiently for her to dock at Port aux Basques. The Caribou sailed from North Sydney at 11:30 p.m. Sunday with 263 passengers and a full load of vehicles.

It is hoped that weather conditions will abate later today, but it is not expected that normal schedule will resume until Tuesday at the earliest.

Travellers are advised to call Marine Atlantic for latest information.
