The following is being distributed at the request of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador:

Slo-pitch Tourneys this weekend

The High School Athletic Federation will sponsor four provincial slo-pitch tournaments this coming weekend. A total of 37 teams will compete for provincial championship banners.

The Boys 3A tournament is being hosted by Dunne Memorial Academy in St. Mary's and will feature 11 teams in three divisions. The Blue Division will see action from St. Augustines (Plum Point), Dorset Collegiate (Pilleys Island), Lester Pearson Memorial (Wesleyville) and Point Leamington Central High. The Red Division will see action from Our Lady of Lourdes High, Dunne Memorial, St. Michaels All Grade (Arnolds Cove) and St. Joseph's Academy (Lamaline). Rounding out the tournament in the White Division will be Stella Maris High (Trepassey), Mobile Central High and Holy Trinity Reg. High (Norman's Cove). Games will be played at both Gaskiers and St. Marys Fields starting at 8:30 Friday morning. The top teams will compete in the playoff round on Saturday culminating in the championship game at 1:15 p.m.

Queen Elizabeth Regional High in Foxtrap will play host to 10 teams in the Boys 4A tournament. Playing in Division A at Nugents Field will be Queen Elizabeth Reg. High, Bishops College (St. John's), Marystown Central High, Fogo Island Central High and Ascension Collegiate (Bay Roberts). Division B will play out of Seal cove Field and will put the following teams against each other: St. John Bosco (St. John's), Roncalli Central High (Avondale), Clarenville High, Laval High (Placentia) and Templeton Collegiate (Gillams). Games start at both venues at 4:30, Thursday evening and run through Friday and Saturday. The top two teams will meet in the championship game Saturday afternoon.

Our Lady of Lourdes will be the host school for the Girls 3A tournament. Division A will see action from St. Marks High (Kings Cove), the host, Christ the King (Rushoon) and Stella Maris (Trepassey), and will play at Field A. Field B will feature Roncalli High (Port Saunders), Legallais Memorial (Isle Aux Morts), J.M. Olds Collegiate (Twillingate) and Dorset Collegiate (Pilleys Island). Games will be played 10:30 Friday morning and continuing through Saturday. The championship game will be played at Field A at 1:15 p.m.

Laval High School in Placentia will host the 4A Girls Tournament. Two fields will be used for this event. In one field, Roncalli High (Avondale), Holy Trinity (Torbay), Gander Collegiate, and Discovery Collegiate (Bonavista) will play off for 2 semi-final berths. The B Division will see competition among Queen Elizabeth Regional High (Foxtrap), the host Laval, Pearce Regional High (Burin) and Templeton Collegiate (Gillams). The tournament will start at 12:30 Friday and conclude with a 3 p.m. championship game on Saturday.

All tournaments are sponsored by the School Milk Foundation and Keyin Technical College. Championship banners, gold and silver medals and Keyin Sportsmanship Awards will be presented at each Tournament.
