The following is being distributed at the request of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador:

Juvenile and midget teams to compete in Eastern Canadians

This weekend the Juvenile Girls Hoop team will join up with the boys team (competing in the U.S.) to compete in the Eastern Canadian Championships slated for July 25-27 in Moncton, New Brunswick. Also this weekend the Midget Boys and Girls Provincial Basketball teams are travelling to Halifax, Nova Scotia to compete in the Eastern Canadian Midget Championships at Saint Mary's University. All four teams will compete in a round robin format against teams from Ontario, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia. The championship game in each division is slated for Sunday afternoon.

Members of the Midget Girls team are: Laura White of Kippens, Brenda Highmore of Pasadena; Amy Dalton of Harbour Main; Sayer Walsh of Conception Harbour; Maureen Murrin of Shoe Cove; Claudette Conway, Elizabeth Dohey and Jenine Brown of St. Bride's; Karen Hynes of Mount Pearl; and Laura Churchill, Renee McGrath, Erin Woodrow, Catherine Steiner, Deanne Rose and Leslie Bradshaw of St. John's. The coaching staff consist of: Doug Partridge, Tami Pennell and Michelle Healey.

The Midget Boys team include: Scott Myrden of Corner Brook; David Woodford of Deer Lake; Mark Miller of Fogo; Tim Gill and Andrew Harnett of Seldom; Michael English of Angels Cove; Charles Luther of Trepassey; Bill Dooley of Carbonear; Phillip Pike of Torbay; Andrew Cameron, Corey Noseworthy and Matt Harding of Mount Pearl; Ian Sinclair, Mark Tobin and Vince Greene of St. John's. The coaches are: Nash Miller, Steve Courtney, Shawn Courtney and Shannon Miller.

Members of the Juvenile Girls team include: Vicky Gould from Plum Point; Kerri Highmore from Pasadena; Cassandra Browne of Grand Falls; Ruth Jacobs of Fogo Island; Nancy Barker, Tara Jacobs, Heather Kirby and Jillian Wilton of Deer Lake; Danielle Rumbolt of Stephenville; Sandi Ennis from Placentia and Andrea Hogan, Amy Pryce-Phillips, Robyn Tucker and Laura Wellon from St. John's. Coaches for the program include Kellie Baker, Kim Maher and Paul Byrne.
