The following is being distributed at the request of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador:

The Newfoundlnd and Labrador Basketball Association will hold open try-outs for two summer programs at the end of March and early April. The juvenile and midget girls tryouts will be held in St. John's at the Torbay Recreation Center and are open to athletes residing east of Gander. The age groups, sites and times are contained in the information below. Athletes selected to the provincial team will compete in the Eastern Canadian Championships slated for Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, July 25- 27. Participants are asked to register on site and cheques are to be made payable to the NLBA. For additional information please contact Bill Murphy at (709) 576-0247.

MIDGET GIRLS PROGRAM:

Athletes must be born in 1982 or later to be eligible for competition. Open tryouts will be held from 6 p.m. - 10 p.m. Monday, March 31 at the Torbay Recreation Center. There will be no registration fee for this initial session. Individuals selected at the end of the first session will attend a second session on Tuesday, April 1 from 11:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. and from 8 a.m. - 10 p.m. A $10 registration fee will be charged for this session. The head coach for the Provincial Midget Girls Program is Doug Partridge of St. John's.

JUVENILE GIRLS PROGRAM:

Athletes must be born in 1980 or later to be eligible for competition. Open tryouts will be held April 1 from 9 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. and on April 2 between the hours of 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. A $20 registration fee will be charged for all athletes attending. The head coach for the Juvenile Girls Program is Kellie Baker of St. John's. The assistant coach is Kim Maher also of St. John's.
