The following is being distributed at the request of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador:

Teams from the St. John's Figure Skating Club dominated the precision skating competition this weekend winning gold medals in all categories at the 1997 Newfoundland Sectional and 1997 Adult Precision Figure Skating Championships. They improved on their last year's results of three gold and one bronze by taking all four gold medals up for grabs.

To put the icing on the cake, the St. John's Novice entry "The Signals", took the Cornell Trophy for best unison at the competition and the Butt Trophy for the most spirited team was a tie between the Friction on Ice team from St. John's FSC, Silver Sensations from Silver Blades FSC in Corner Brook and the Silver Breakers from the Southern Shore FSC.

In the junior category, Friction on Ice team from St. John's FSC, under coach Jean McCloy, skated away with the gold medal making this the fourth straight title for this team. The silver went to the Ice Crystals from the host CBN Club and the Junior Starlites from Mount Pearl took the bronze.

In the novice event, the Signals from the St. John's FSC, coached by Rena Noseworthy, skated to the gold improving on last year's bronze, the Icicles from host CBN club got the silver and Silver Sensations from Silver Blades FSC in Corner Brook took the bronze.

In the juvenile event, Ice Pix from St. John's FSC, coached by Jean McCloy, got the gold medal for the second year in a row, Snow White from Mount Pearl FSC won the silver and Peppermint Twist from Silver Blades in Corner Brook clinched the bronze.

In the adult category, Class Act from St. John's, coached by Valerie Dumaresque, skated to the gold medal for the second year in a row, Sharp Edges from Mount Pearl were second and the Ice Buckets from CBN got the bronze.

The Deja Vu senior team from the St. John's Figure Skating Club, coached by Rena Noseworthy, skated a successful evaluation and will skate at the national competition.

Also making the trip will be Friction on Ice, Ice Crystals and Junior Starlites in the junior category. In the novice category Newfoundland will be represented by the Signals, the Icicles and Silver Sensations. The Deja Vu coached by Rena Noseworthy will compete in the senior event.

The 1997 Canadian Precision Skating Championships will be held in Halifax, March 5 to 9, 1997.
