The following is being distributed at the request of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador:

On February 21 and 22 and February 28 to March 1, the Newfoundland and Labrador Volleyball Association will be holding try-outs for the provincial boys midget + 1 team. The try-outs will be held at Gander Collegiate on the 21-22 for the central region and at Queen Elizabeth High on February 28 - March 1 for the eastern region. The central try-out will start on Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. and will continue on Saturday from 9 a.m. - 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. The eastern try-out will start on Friday from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. and continue on Saturday from 9 a.m. - 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. - 3 p.m.

Boys who are eligible to try-out for the midget + 1 team are those athletes born in 1980 only. All try-outs will have a registration fee of $20 per player with the proceeds of those fees used to help offset the training and travel costs of the teams. Athletes can register by contacting the NLVA at 576-0817 or at the beginning of the first try-out session.

This team will be competing in an Eastern Canadian Championship which will be held in Stephenville next summer. The championship will feature teams from Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and PEI. The coaches that will be leading the boys midget + 1 team are Judi Burgess-Tucker (head coach), Brian Laing (assistant coach), and Clay Reimer (assistant coach). The NLVA is inviting all eligible players to come along and try out.
