1997 Cabot 500 International Gymnaestrada Extravaganza

As part of the Cabot 500 celebrations Gymnastics Newfoundland and Labrador will be hosting the 1997 Cabot 500 International Gymnaestrada Extravaganza at the MUN gym May 24-25.

The Gymnaestrada is a festival of gymnastics in all its forms and manifestations, a fun-filled event of varied physical activities including; dance, aerobics, martial arts, acrobatics and precision drills for all ages. An activity of mass participation will take place to conclude the event.

Gymnastic groups, both artistic and rhythmic, from Great Britain (Dorset, Bristol, and Poole areas), 10 of the Northeastern United States, the 12 provinces/territories of Canada and the Newfoundland clubs have been invited as well as other active groups such as the Mews Centre Dancers, the dance schools, Kenpo/Karate, 880 Air Cadet Squadron, aerobic and cheerleading groups, and school gymnastic display and skipping groups.

This prestigious event had attracted several groups from Nova Scotia already and a positive response is anticipated.

         March-in and opening ceremonies    Saturday, May 24    9 a.m.
         Performances:                      Saturday, May 24    9:30 - 6 p.m.
                                            Sunday,   May 24    9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
