January 30, 1997 (Tourism, Culture and Recreation) The following is being distributed at the request of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador: The Mount Pearl Figure Skating Club took the trophy for the club accumulating the most points as well as the Most Improved Club trophy at the Avalon Regional Figure Skating Championships held last weekend at the Glacier in Mount Pearl. The Ballish Cup for the most artistic performances went to Laura Crosbie from St. John's Figure Skating Club. Gold, silver and bronze medals were awarded as follows: LADIES Open pre-novice free skate: Open pre-novice short: Pre-novice A short: Juvenile "A": Juvenile "B": Juvenile "C": Juvenile "D": Hostess/Frito Lay Preliminary "A": Campbells Soup Preliminary "B": Preliminary "C": Preliminary "D": MEN Wendy's/Tim Horton's Juvenile "A": DANCE Pre-juvenile: The top three skaters in each of the 16 events will represent the Avalon Region at the Central Dairies/Tropicanna Provincials to be held in Gander, February 27 to March 1.
