The following is being distributed at the request of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador:

Betty Brett, chairperson of the skater development committee, is the team manager and leader of the largest Newfoundland contingent of skaters to the Atlantic Divisional Skating Championship. These 24 skaters who form the provincial team, sponsored by Travel Management, were tops in their events at the 1998 Bank of Montreal Sectional Championships held in Stephenville in November.

Christine Moores, president of the Newfoundland Association, will accompany the skaters as well as Agnes Thistle and Reuben Hillier, Labrador, as chaperones.

We will be represented in ladies and mens, singles, dance and pairs in pre-novice, novice and junior categories as follows:

Junior Ladies - Adrienne Mercer, Prince of Wales, FSC, Lelia Hutton, Prince of Wales, FSC

Junior Men - Stefan Dean, St. John's, FSC

Official practices take place on Thursday with competition on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The championship will take place from December 11 to 14 in St. Foye, Quebec where skaters from all four Atlantic Provinces, and qualifying skaters from Quebec, will participate.

Skaters will be vying for the right to represent the Atlantic division at the Bank of Montreal Canadians to be held in Hamilton, Ontario from January 5 to 11, 1998.
