The following is being distributed at the request of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador:

The Board of Governors and Selection Committee of the Newfoundland and Labrador Sports Hall of Fame will meet this weekend, September 12 and 13, at the Delta St. John's Hotel and Conference Centre to review all of the nominations that have been submitted and vote on the new inductees for 1997. There are three categories in which a candidate can be inducted:

1. Athlete
2. Builder
3. Athlete/Builder

The constitution allows for a maximum of three athletes and two builders or athlete/builders to be inducted each year. This year's inductees will be added to the elite list of approximately 124.

Gail Roberts, chair, would like to acknowledge the support of Labatt Brewery who will once again be the major sponsor for the 25th annual induction dinner being held on Saturday, October 18 at the Delta St. John's Hotel and Conference Centre at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the induction dinner are available by calling Sport Newfoundland and Labrador's office at (709) 576-4932.

Members of the Board of Governors are: Gail Roberts, chair, St. John's; Dominic Maddox, secretary, Stephenville; Walter Crotty, Labrador; Duey Fitzgerald, St. John's; Bruce Sparkes, Gander and Dave Brenton, Marystown. Members of the selection committee are: Bruce LeGrow, chair, Stephenville; Tolson Chapman, St. John's; John Browne, St. John's; Roger Howse, Grand Falls-Windsor; Ian Campbell, St. John's and Brian Gibbons, St. John's.
