The following is being distributed at the request of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador:

1997 Men's Canada Games Basketball Team

The Canada Games Men's Basketball team depart for Montreal, Quebec to take part in the Montreal Basketball Festival which will run from July 25-27. The tournament will serve as a warm up for the Canada Summer Games slated for Brandon, Manitoba from August 9-15. The team will play an exhibition game against the Quebec team upon their arrival and will be slated in a division with Nova Scotia, Ontario and a team from the United States. The championship game is slated for Sunday afternoon. The team will return to St. John's on Monday, July 28 to resume training for the Games. Members of the team include: Richard Brenton of Marystown; Jeff Merrigan of Port aux Basque; Saj Joseph of Deer Lake; Carl English of Patrick's Cove; Peter White of Carbonear; Frank Power of St. Mary's; Craig Finlay of Trepassey; Greg Winter, Scott Gibbons, Ryan Michalski, Matthew Chapman, Andrew Sinclair and Dion Langdon of St. John's. The coaching staff include Glenn Normore, George Power and Clarence Sutton.
