Canada Games Women's Soccer Camp this weekend

The coaching staff of Newfoundland's entry in the 1997 Canada Games women's soccer competition will be conducting an evaluation camp this coming weekend at MacDonald Drive Junior High School in St. John's. This camp will see the 23 players who are still in the running for the 17 positions on the team be put through their paces by head coach Ed Arnott and his staff.

Players invited to the camp have been training all winter and are in the final preparations for the May selection camp to be held on May 24-25. At the May camp, coach Arnott will announce the 17 players who will wear Newfoundland's colours this year. Many of the girls have been training with Arnott for the past four years while some are recent additions to the pool. They have been added because of outstanding play with other teams last season. Last year's version of the team was runner up as 1996 Provincial Team of the Year going undefeated in 25 games.

Players invited to this weekend's camp are: Cathy Alcock, Kristen Arnott, Sarah Arnott, Fiona Curtis, Narina Delaney, Joanne Hefford, Tamar Hood, Susan Myrden, Dana Parsons, Megan Roberts, Susan Russell, Erika Stokes, Karen Wade, all of St. John's; Michele Derwin, Wendy Beckett, Cathy Quinlan, Anne Stapleton, Kerri Walsh, Mount Pearl; Jennifer Neville, Paradise; Susan Rideout, Conception Bay South; Julie Robbins and Jennifer Tarbett, Corner Brook; and Krista Stewart, Marystown. the team's assistant coach is Mary Stordy and the manager is Marie Roberts.
