Sport Newfoundland and Labrador held their 1996-97 Athletic Schol arship Selection Committee meeting on March 23, 1997 at the Delta Hotel in St. John's to decide on the 12 winners of cash scholarships.

Bill Burke of Grand Falls-Windsor, chair of the Scholarship Committee is very pleased to announce the names of the recipients who will receive one of the 12 $500 scholarships for 1996-97.

    Jamie Tobin, Cape Broyle (Hockey/Softball)

On behalf of the board of directors for Sport Newfoundland and Labrador, Mr. Burke would like to thank Sandra Kelly, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation for the department's contribution of $1,000, which enabled the Scholarship Committee to award an extra two scholarships.

Bill Burke and the selection committee members, Frank Butler, Physical Education - Memorial University of Newfoundland; Jimmy Tee, Department of Tourism, Culture and Recreation; and Frances Wiseman and Gary Corbett, Sport Newfoundland and Labrador, would like to congratulate all winners and wish them continued success in their athletic and academic endeavours.

The winners will be presented with their awards at the Sport Newfoundland and Labrador annual general meeting luncheon being held at the Delta Hotel on May 10.
