Results of volleyball championships

Humber Volleyball Club captured the Pepsi Midget B Girls Provincial Volleyball Championship held in Springdale over the weekend. They finished with a perfect 6-0 record in Division B after round robin play. Other teams in the division were the Strikers Wiscombes (4-2), St. Annes (2-4) and Windsor Collegiate (0-6). G.C. Rowe was top in division A at 4-0 followed by Holy Cross (3-1), Springdale (2-2), John Burke Buccaneers (1- 3), and Strikers Midget Blue (0-4).

In the first semi-final Humber Volleyball Club defeated Holy Cross in the best of three match-up to advance to the final. In the other semi- final Strikers Wiscombes defeated G.C. Rowe two straight to make it to the final. The bronze medal match saw G.C. Rowe defeat Holy Cross 2-0. In the final Humber Volleyball Club won two straight over Strikers Wiscombes by scores of 15-8 and 15-4 to earn the gold medal.

Players selected to the all-star team include Laura Watton (G.C. Rowe), Amy Rothany (Strikers Wiscombes), Jessica Stride (St. Annes), Jane Earle (Windsor Collegiate), Monique Thomas (Springdale), and Simone Strickland (Holy Cross). The most spirited player award went to Emily Ball of Humber Volleyball Club.

In the Intra Legrows Travel Senior Men's Open play Benders defeated ONCA in a hard fought final by scores 15-6 and 17-15. The semi-final match saw Benders defeat the Guards 15-12, 12-15, and 15-12 and ONCA defeat Pasadena 15-1, 17-15. In round robin play in Division A Pasadena finished first at 3-1, Guards 3-1, Don Cherrys 2-2, Marine Institute 1-3, and ONCA Old Thyme 0-4, while in Division B, Benders were 4-0, ONCA 3-1, Canada Games 2-2, Conne River 1-3 and Cabot College 0-4.

In the Women's Championship, Turkey Joes defeated Benders 15-5, 15-9 in the final to win top honours. The semi-final saw Benders defeat Canada Games 15-9, 13-15, 16-14 and in the round robin Turkey Joes finished with a perfect 5-0, followed by Benders at 4-1, Canada Games 3-2, Jungle Jims 2-3, Gander 1-4, Strikers from Marystown 0-5.
