Frances Wiseman, chair of the awards program, would like to emphasize that the deadline of January 15, 1997 is fast approaching for accepting nominations by Sport Newfoundland and Labrador for the following 1996 awards:

• Junior male/female athlete of the year
  Senior male/female athlete of the year
  Coach of the year
  Executive of the year
  Team of the year

Nominations must be for athletes, teams, coaches or executive members who participate in a sport which is a recognized active or associate member of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador.

Wiseman comments: "Since these awards are for an outstanding event performance or series of performances in the year of nomination, every effort should be made to see that the best candidates are nominated for consideration."

Wiseman points out that "Nominations may be made by provincial sport covering bodies, Newfoundland sports media, or by the general public."

An athlete/team nominated must maintain a primary residence in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Wiseman advises: "Again this year, we are fortunate to have Labatt Brewery as the major sponsor along with associate sponsors Brookfield Dairy, Investors Group, 3M and Delta Convention Centre."

The presentation of these provincial awards will take place at the awards banquet to be held March 15, 1997 at the Delta Convention Centre in St. John's.
