The following is being distributed at the request of Newfoundland and Labrador High School Athletic Federation:

Provincial boys volleyball tournaments

The High School Athletic Federation rounds out its calendar of volleyball for the year with four volleyball championships slated for this weekend. The boys A and 3A volleyball tournaments will be held in Labrador. The boys island tournaments were held two weeks ago to decide which island teams would travel to Labrador for the provincial championships. Lumsden School Complex (A) and Carmanville School Complex (3A) were the victors.

The boys A volleyball tournament is being hosted by Lake Melville School, North West River. Teams include the island winner, Lumsden School Complex, Eric G. Lambert School (Churchill Falls), Our Lady Queen of Peace (Goose Bay), J.C. Erhardt Memorial (Makkovik) and the host, Lake Melville School. The opening ceremonies are scheduled for 7 p.m. and play begins at 8 p.m., Thursday evening and continue all day Friday. Semi finals are scheduled for Saturday morning with the championship game at 11 a.m.

The boys 2A volleyball finals are being co-hosted by Charisma Collegiate and Grant Collegiate in Springdale. The eight team tournament includes, the co-hosts, Corpus Christi High (Northern Bay), Holy Cross School Complex (St. Albans), St. Augustine's (Plum Point), R.W. Parsons (Roberts Arm), Southwest Arm School (Little Hearts Ease) and a team from Central East Region. Opening ceremonies are slated for 11:30 a.m., Friday with the first games beginning at 12:30. Cross overs are scheduled for 11:30 a.m., Saturday with the championship game at 3:30.

The boys 3A tournament is being hosted by Goose High School. Teams include the island winner, Carmanville School Complex and Mehihek High (Labrador City). The opening ceremonies are scheduled for 7 p.m. and play begins at 8 p.m., Thursday evening and continues all day Friday. Semi finals are scheduled for Saturday morning with the championship game at 12 noon.

Pasadena Academy will play host to the eight team 4A boys championships. Playing in the two division event will be the host, Grand Falls Academy, Bishop's College (St. John's) and Pearce Regional High (Burin Bay Arm). Division B teams include Discovery Collegiate (Bonavista), Herdman Collegiate (Corner Brook), Booth Memorial (St. John's) and Roncalli High (Avondale). Play begins Friday morning. Semi finals are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday with the championship game slated for 3:30.

Keyin Tech and the School Milk Foundation are sponsors of the tournament. Keyin will present sportsmanship awards to an individual in each tournament. Zap, the milk mascot will be making an appearance at the 4A tournament in Pasadena. The winning team in each tournament will receive the championship banner as well as gold medals.
