The following is being distributed at the request of Newfoundland and Labrador High School Athletic Federation:

Provincial Girls Volleyball Championships

This weekend is the culmination of the high school volleyball season for girls A, 2A, 3A and 4A teams.

The A girls tournament is being co-hosted by Our Lady of the Cape High, Cape St. George and Ecole St. Anne, Mainland. Competing teams include: Our Lady of the Cape High, St. Joseph's (Bay de Verde), Holy Name of Mary High (Lawn), Lumsden School Complex and J.C. Erhardt Memorial (Makkovik). Team B teams include Ecole St. Anne, Central NF Rep, Sops Arm High, H.G. Fillier (Englee) and Legallis Memorial (Isle aux Morts). The opening ceremonies will be held 9:30 Friday morning followed by the opening matches of the tournament. The cross overs and championship game will be played on Saturday starting at 12 noon.

The girls 2A championships are being hosted in Cape John Collegiate, LaScie. Teams competing are the host, Cape John Collegiate; Bishop O'Reilly High, Port au Port; Bishop White High, Port Rexton; A.C. Palmer Collegiate, Roddickton; Smallwood Academy, Gambo; Corpus Christi High, Northern Bay; and King Academy Central High, Harbour Breton. The matches get under way 2 p.m. Thursday and will continue all day Friday starting at 8 a.m. The championship game is set for Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.

Botwood Collegiate and Leo Burke Academy will play host to the 10 team 3A girls championships. Division A teams playing out of Botwood Collegiate gym will be the host, Botwood Collegiate, Musgravetown Central High, Bishop O'Neill Collegiate (Brigus), Menihek Integrated (Labrador City) and Templeton Collegiate (Gillams). Playing out of Leo Burke Academy gym will be Leo Burke, Pasadena Academy, Jane Collins Academy (Hare Bay), Marystown Central High and St. Boniface High (Bell Island). Play begins at 11 a.m. Friday. The championship game will be held on Saturday afternoon.

Herdman Collegiate will be the host school for the 10 team 4A championships, to be held in Corner Brook. Playing out of Red Division will be the host, Herdman Collegiate, Gander Collegiate, Bishops College (St. John's), Ascension Collegiate (Bay Roberts) and Discovery Collegiate (Bonavista). The Blue Division will be played at Regina High School. Teams include Regina High, Grand Falls Academy, Roncalli High School (Avondale), Queen Elizabeth Regional High (Foxtrap) and Pearce Regional High (Burin Bay Arm).

Games get under way at 2:00 Friday afternoon. Ten games will be played Friday with the remaining 10 round robin games slated for Saturday morning starting at 8:30. Saturday afternoon will see the semi-finals, featuring the top two teams from each division, followed by the championship game.
