The following is being distributed at the request of Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador:

Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador today announced that Corner Brook's new Regional Civic Centre has been selected as the site for Atlantic Canada Showcase '98. The first official Atlantic Canada Showcase(ACS) was held in St. John's in 1994. The annual tourism marketplace draws nearly 500 buyers and sellers from across Canada, the United States and parts of Europe to this region of the country.

HNL's Executive Director, Cathy Duke, said: "The selection of Western Newfoundland as the host region for ACS '98 is especially timely because of preparations for the Viking millennial celebration marketing the 1000th Anniversary of the Vikings arrival in L'Anse aux Meadows. It's a tremendous marketing opportunity for the area."

Atlantic Canada Showcase '97 takes place in Sydney, Nova Scotia next week. The dates for next year's Showcase in Corner Brook are tentatively set for September 30 - October 3.
