New Exhibit Highlights History of Colonial Building

Sandra Kelly, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, today officially opened a new exhibit about the Provincial Archives of Newfoundland and Labrador entitled, "If These Walls Could Talk: The History of the Colonial Building."

"Since 1850, the Colonial Building has stood as a proud symbol of our political history, and the many important documents kept here today are the living reminders of who we are and where we have come from," Ms. Kelly said. "I'm delighted with the timing of this exhibit, as the many visitors to our province this year for the Cabot 500th Anniversary celebrations will be provided with an interesting and informative window into our past."

The visual displays chronical the many events in the life of the Colonial Building; from riots to Royal Balls to heated debates on Confederation with Canada.

The exhibit will open to the public on Tuesday, June 10, 1997, and will remain open until October 31, 1997. Exhibit hours are from 9 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., Monday through Friday.
