June 5, 1997 Three More Parks Successfully Privatized Sandra Kelly, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, today announced that privatization arrangements have been concluded for three more parks that are set to open within the next few weeks. Government is currently in the process of concluding the final arrangements on the remaining seven private parks. "The ongoing privatization process is a tremendous success," Minister Kelly said. "I'm confident that the new owners, the camping public and government will all enjoy the benefits of a streamlined system that has much more to offer." The new privatized parks are located in various parts of the island: near Gander; on the Port au Port peninsula; and near St. John's. They are listed below with the number of available campsites identified in parentheses.
Nine parks within the provincial system have already opened for the season. The remaining 11 provincial parks are scheduled to open on June 13. Minister Kelly would like to wish all campers and tourists a safe and enjoyable Cabot 500th Anniversary summer. She reminds all park users to protect the environment and clean up their camping or picnic site before leaving the park.
