The following is being distributed at the request of Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador:

Eastern/Avalon launch for Tourism Awarenesss Month

One of Newfoundland's most colourful and multi-faceted entertainers will be presented with an Ambassador of Hospitality Award at the Eastern/Avalon region's kick-off for Tourism Awareness Month with "Dance Up!", a night of traditional Newfoundland dancing.

What: "Dance Up!" is an event held by Pigeon Inlet Productions usually held every second Friday night in St. John's. Dance caller Tonya Kearley will provide dance instruction beforehand while musician Kelly Russell plays the tunes. The St. Pat's Dancers may perform (TBC).

Why: Tourism Awareness Month is an annual awareness campaign organized by Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador (HNL). The campaign promotes resident tourism and highlights the economic significance of tourism to our province.

Theme: This year's theme is Do It! - Let's Welcome the World with Our Home-made Charm!

When: May 26, 1997 at 8 p.m.

Where: Cabot Room, Hotel St. John�s

Speakers: Edna Hall, Provincial Director of Canadian Heritage and Liam Sneyd, President of Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador

Other information: Sandra C. Kelly, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, will officially launch the province-wide Tourism Awareness Month campaign in Labrador the same evening. Promotional activities will continue throughout the month until June 20.

The event is open to all HNL members, and anyone involved in the tourism and hospitality industry. Members of the media are also invited to attend.
