Vista 97 announces its corporate sponsors

Four leading players of Newfoundland's corporate community have come on board with Vista 97 for celebrations around the Matthew's Landfall this June, says Vista 97 chairman George Clements.

"Vista 97 is proud that Labatt Breweries of Newfoundland, Durdle's Foodland, Fishery Products International Ltd., and the Bank of Nova Scotia will be helping us celebrate the adventure during our four day spectacular festival from June 23 to 26," Clements said.

The Matthew Landfall will be one of the most significant events to occur in Newfoundland and Labrador this year. The Matthew will reenact its historic voyage 500 years to the day, and will be greeted by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, and His Royal Highness, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, and many other visiting dignitaries. Tens of thousands of visitors are expected to be in Bonavista for the event, and it will recieve international media coverage, including national and international television coverage.

In celebrating the adventure, Vista 97 has developed a diverse and exciting four day program featuring the very best of Newfoundland and Labrador music, visual arts, theatre, and crafts. "Activities will begin on June 23 as we countdown to the Matthew's arrival on June 24 and for four days, we have a full program of activities and events for all ages," states Mr. Clements. The Matthew will be in port until the evening of June 26. As well, from June 23 - 26 there are major concerts planned for Cabot Stadium, featuring acts such as Great Big Sea and Kim Stockwood.

The four major sponsors have made significant contributions in cash and in-kind support. These contributions are assisting Vista 97 in delivering its extensive event program, and in providing the many services required for a successful event.

Tourism Minister Sandra Kelly welcomed the corporate involvement for the Vista 97 event, and noted it is further evidence of the incredible support for the 500th anniversay celebrations from businesses throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.

"The volunteers of Vista 97 already have an excellent plan in place, not only to help us welcome the Matthew but to offer a memorable experience throughout the Vista 97 event itself," Kelly added. "The additional corporate support from these four key community players can only ensure the success of Bonavista's celebrations."

"With three months to go, we are pleased to state that our plans are progressing well, and from June 23 - 26, this province will see a celebration unparalleled in our long history. Labatt, Foodland, Fishery Products International, and the Bank of Nova Scotia will be proudly celebrating the adventure with Vista 97 and the province," exclaims Mr. Clements.
