The following is being distributed at the request of the Newfoundland and Labrador High School Athletic Federation:

Two high school hockey champions will be crowned this coming weekend.

Sixteen teams will be competing in two tournaments to decide the 4A and 3A high school champions. In addition to receiving the championship banner, the winners of the 4A title will be awarded the historic and prestigious Boyle Trophy.

St. Stephen's High School in Stephenville is host to the 4A tournament. The tournament will be played at Stephenville Gardens and will feature the following teams - Division I, defending champions Gander Collegiate Concordes, St. Mike's Sentinels (Grand Falls-Windsor), St. James Saints (Port aux Basques) and Holy Heart Highlanders (St. John's); Division 2, Ascension Astros (Bay Roberts), Discovery Destroyers (Bonavista), Gonzaga Vikings (St. John's) and the host St. Stephens Spartans.

Round robin action gets under way 9 a.m., Thursday with five games scheduled throughout the day. Opening ceremonies are at 5:30 p.m. Seven round robin games will be played on Friday with the top two teams from each division advancing to the semi-finals slated for 10 a.m. and 12 noon on Saturday. The championship game starts 6 p.m. Saturday.

Meanwhile, Roncalli Central High in Port Saunders is the host school for the 3A championships. Eight teams have qualified through zone, regional and provincial play for the event. Division A will see action from the host Roncalli, St. Josephs (St. Georges), St. Pius X (Baie Verte) and J.M. Olds Collegiate (Twillingate). Facing off in Division B will be Harriot Curtis Collegiate (St. Anthony), St. Augustines (Plum Point), Baltimore High (Ferryland) and Buchans Public School.

Games get under way, Thursday at 3 p.m. with four games scheduled for that day, Friday has a schedule of six games plus an opening ceremony at 12 noon. Semi-final and championship games will be played at 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.

The High School Athletic Federation is proud to have Keyin Technical College and the School Milk Foundation/Dairy Farmers of Newfoundland and Labrador as sponsors of the federation and these provincial tournaments.
