Queen's Counsel Appointments

Chris Decker, Minister of Justice and Attorney General for Newfoundland and Labrador, is pleased to announce the Lieutenant-Governor in Council has appointed nine lawyers as Queen's Counsel.

The new Queen's Counsel are: Alfred Pike, Timothy Chalker, Wayne Dymond, Leonard Thomas, Maureen Greene, Christine Fagan, Bernard Coffey, William Morrow and Dennis Browne.

Alfred Pike graduated from Memorial University in 1962 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, and he received a Bachelor of Laws degree from Dalhousie University in 1965. He was admitted to the Newfoundland Bar in 1966, and currently maintains Pike law office in St. John's.

Timothy Chalker graduated from Memorial University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1968, and received a Bachelor of Laws degree from Dalhousie University in 1971. He was admitted to the Newfoundland Bar in 1971 and currently maintains a law firm under the name of Chalker & Company in Kelligrews.

Wayne Dymond graduated from Memorial University in 1969 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. In 1974, he received his Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of New Brunswick, and was admitted to the Newfoundland Bar in 1975. Mr. Dymond is currently a partner in the firm Mills, Dymond & Hussey in Clarenville.

Leonard Thomas graduated from St. Mary's University in 1970 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, and in 1974 received his Bachelor of Laws degree from Dalhousie University. He was admitted to the Newfoundland Bar in 1975, and currently practises law with the firm Poole, Althouse, Clarke, Thompson & Thomas in Corner Brook.

Maureen Greene graduated from Memorial University in 1972 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, and received a Bachelor of Laws degree from Dalhousie University in 1975. She also holds a Masters of Laws degree from the London School of Economics, where she graduated in 1976. Ms. Greene was admitted to the Newfoundland Bar in 1976, and is presently Vice-President and General Counsel for Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro.

Christine Fagan received her undergraduate degree from St. Francis Xavier University and a Master of Arts degree and Law degree from the University of New Brunswick. She was admitted to the Newfoundland Bar in 1978 and is currently a partner with the firm Chalker Green & Rowe in St. John's.

Bernard Coffey graduated from Memorial University with a Bachelor of Science in 1974, and a Bachelor of Arts in 1981. In 1979, he received his Bachelor of Laws degree from York University. Mr. Coffey was admitted to the Newfoundland Bar in 1979, and is currently Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions with the Department of Justice in St. John's.

William Morrow graduated from the University of New Brunswick in 1977 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, and in 1980 with a Bachelor of Laws degree. He was admitted to the Newfoundland Bar in 1981, and currently is a partner with the firm Morrow, Power in Bay Roberts.

Dennis Browne is a graduate of Memorial University, and in 1983 received his Bachelor of Laws degree from Dalhousie University. He was admitted to the Newfoundland Bar in 1984 and is currently a partner in the St. John's law firm French Browne.

The appointees will receive their commissions as Queen's Counsel from the Lieutenant-Governor of Newfoundland, at a date to be announced later.
