September 24, 1997 Appointments of MOU Steering Committee announced Judy Foote, Minister of Industry, Trade and Technology, announced today that an eight member Industrial Cooperation Committee (ICC) has been appointed to implement and monitor the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the government of Newfoundland and Labrador and the South Coast Metropole Partnership (United Kingdom), an organization established to represent the interests of local authorities of the central south coast of the United Kingdom. The province's representatives on the committee include: Randy Gillespie, Director of the Marine Geomatics Initiative at the Canadian Centre for Marine Communications and the committee co-chair; Paul Clay, President of Seacom Consulting; Jane M. Keiley, Associate Director of Technology Strategy with Stentor; and Hunter Rowe, Director of Industry Support Group with the Department of Industry, Trade and Technology. The other four members are appointed by the South Coast Metropole Partnership. In April of this year, the two parties entered into a five year MOU to develop industrial cooperation, technology exchange and research and development between the regions. While initially focusing on marine and maritime technology, the initiative can expand into other sectors. Ms. Foote said that the agreement, focused on developing strong private sector linkages for commercial development in the international marketplace, could result in significant opportunities for companies in Newfoundland and Labrador. She added: "Appointing representatives with the appropriate background and expertise is key to accomplishing the objectives of the MOU. The committee members will be working closely with local industry to that end." The ICC is a working level group that will be responsible for all cooperative activities between the parties and will act as the coordinating body for activities related to the MOU.
