Assistant deputy minister appointed Premier Brian Tobin today announced the appointment of Pamela Elliott as the assistant deputy minister of Health, Institutions Branch. Ms. Elliott fills the position vacated by Roy Manuel who has accepted the position of CEO with the Peninsulas Health Care Corporation. Ms. Elliott has held numerous senior level positions in the health sector throughout her career. She has been an independent health care consultant within this province and in Nova Scotia. She has been the Assistant Executive Director of Resident Services at the Hoyles-Escasoni Complex in St. John's and at the Bonavista Peninsula Health Care Complex. Ms. Elliott has practiced nursing in St. John's and Corner Brook, has written articles for national health publications and contributed to the publication of text books and course work in university courses. She holds a Master of Business Administration degree, a Bachelor of Nursing degree, and a number of health related diplomas. Joan Marie Aylward, Minister of Health said: "I am very pleased we were able to recruit someone of Ms. Elliott's ability. Her experience will be a valuable asset to the department as it continually strives to improve health and health care throughout Newfoundland and Labrador." The minister said Ms. Elliott has accepted a senior executive position with a broad area of responsibility and accountability including: institutional programs (hospitals, nursing homes, health centres, clinics, and other agencies); policy and administrative liaison with boards and associations for which this position and the department have responsibility; and facility planning activities which includes advising government of the department's priorities with respect to capital projects in the acute and long term care sector - this includes the construction of new facilities, major expansions and/or redevelopments, major and minor renovations.
