Closure of Orma North Caribou Extension Zone

Kevin Aylward, minister responsible for wildlife, announced that effective October 26, the Orma North caribou extension zone will be closed to caribou hunting. The minister has received information that the caribou have left the area. "My officials have completed an aerial reconnaissance of the area and we failed to document substantial densities in the zone. These observations are corroborated by satellite telemetry tracking during this past week."

The staff of the Wildlife Division will continue to monitor the caribou in the area. The minister said: "By closing the area effective October 26, it will permit hunters to complete their hunting plans prior to the closure."
